Using state-of-the-art testing equipment, including moisture meters, laser thermometers, contact and non-contact voltage meters, halogen flashlights, custom inspection mirrors and electronic combustible gas detection equipment, along with an experienced eye I can provide you with a thorough and expert evaluation of a property.  Specialty equipment from Sun Nuclear is used for radon testing.

Not only will I thoroughly inspect inside and outside the house, but I will enter the crawl space under the home to ensure a complete inspection.  Customers are welcome to accompany me as we inspect the foundation, crawlspace, ventilation, insulation, ductwork, plumbing and electrical components.

Using the best available report generation software, I provide you with color coded, detailed and easy to read reports with photographs.  A condensed summary report, ideal for contractors, detailing only problem areas is included.  In most circumstances, I will indicate both the method and estimated costs of necessary repairs.

Who We Are

With over 26 years experience in residential construction and restoration and renovation, J.W. McCool Home Inspection Services comes with a depth of real life knowledge.  Having built, remodeled and restored many homes, I can fairly assess craftsmanship and indicate where repairs are necessary and improvements can be made.

I have been doing home inspections for over 10 years.  I have passed required examinations for both NACHI (National Association of Certified Home Inspectors) and ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) and passed the National Home Inspector Examination.  I have also passed the Standards of Practice and Ethics exam and abide by the standard set by ASHI.  ASHI defined standards of practice and ethics have been adopted by the state of Alabama as its standards.

My continuing education never stops.  I keep up with trends and changes in codes and regulations through active membership in ASHI (member # 248349).
